Collagen - what is it?
COLLAGEN is a major protein of connective tissue, responsible for skin elasticity. It is of high extension resistance and constitutes the main component of a tendon.
Collagen is the most voluminous protein, generally existing in human and animal organisms. Dependent on the species, it comprises 60 - 80 % of all organisms' proteins. Collagen's name was derived from the Greek language and it stands for healing and bonding.
The highest volumes of collagen are contained in the osseous system, skin, sight organ, kidneys, liver and alimentary tract. In our whole life, collagen's living cycle (collagen replacement) keeps going on, the worn out volume is subject to degradation and any lack is immediately supplemented.
With aging or any wasting diseases, collagen degeneration processes begin to prevail over its synthesis.
From about 25 years of age, human skin starts slowly to lose features, which previously used to be proving for its youth, as elasticity and springiness. All these symptoms of human aging result from developing collagen deficit.
When over thirty, practically every human being experiences atrophy of sebaceous and sweat glands, also producing skin drying and growing flabby. Then wrinkles appear. All is an effect of weakening of elastic fibres and collagen, which are the most important constituents to keep our body young. Natural production of collagen keeps getting lower in the aging process.
Reduction of collagen from the skin causes wrinkles; this is why collagen inhibiting aging process is commonly used as a component of cosmetics, specially anti-wrinkles creams and ointments; it eliminates flabbiness, provides an effect of tension and brightens up hyper chromatic areas.
The Properties and Structure of Collagen and its Importance for our Organisms.
Collagen is a protein of youth. It is produced continuously in young organisms; however, if an individual is over 25, the production process slowly becomes reduced. To describe collagen picturesquely, one may say that it is like various types of flexible, tension resistant glue, which is a major component of tendon, capable of joining bones and tissue and responsible for skins elasticity and tension. Thus, old age wrinkles are a result of collagen fibres weakening.
Three interweaved chains, each constructed of 1000 amino acids, form so-called triple helix, and it means collagen - a protein, particularly necessary for skin - as decisive about its appearance and health quality.
How does it come into being? The first stages of its biosynthesis occur in a cell, where amino acids are bonded into a reproducible sequence in a form of a chain, built of 1000 amino acids, afterwards released to intercellular space. And then, singular chains join into double ones, next into triple chains, which finally form so-called triple helix. Not many other proteins show up such wit such regularity. The regularity causes that they mutually interact, resulting in elasticity and tremendous power. Such a spatial structure of amino acids is known by a name of ”triple helix”- an essential, basic property preserved by our Company in the offered product - Collagen Max® Gel.
